Summer camp holds a special place in the hearts of children and parents alike here at Living Montessori Education Community, offering a break from school year routines and an exciting space for growth, new opportunities to expand on, develop friendships, and fun memories. With our focus on child-led and educator guided learning and independence, our Montessori Summer Camp is unique; filled with purposeful activities and space for children to delve into hands-on exploration based on their interests, fostering creativity, curiosity, and social skills. Join us now, on a journey through a day in the life of Living Montessori summer campers.

Morning

Upon arriving in their homerooms, campers are welcomed by their camp counselors as they settle into their morning reading routine just before the group circle, a time for community building. They begin by greeting each other, sharing stories, enjoying music and movement, and setting intentions for the day’s adventures.

The mornings at Living Montessori Summer Camp are dedicated to hands-on learning experiences based on the theme of the week. This year, our camp is STEAM focused with themes such as Robotics and Creative Coding, and Super Science Lab. These activities are adapted for various age groups and abilities. For example, younger children use more concrete materials to understand the basics of coding and programming language. Children engage in science experiments, spark a curiosity in cooking, collaborate on building structures, or create visual displays and dioramas to explain new learned concepts. Each day sparks new creations as campers explore activities tailored to their interests and developmental stage. Weather permitting, many morning activities are taken outside.

Midday

After a morning of making deep connections, campers and counselors come together for a midday meal, prepared with fresh organic ingredients, occasionally picked from our school garden. Meals are a time for nourishment, tasting, and fostering community as campers share conversations and laughter over plates of wholesome food, delivered straight from our amazing chefs in the kitchen. Campers learn to serve themselves and others and take responsibility for cleaning up after themselves.

Afternoon

With bellies full and energy replenished, campers dive into the afternoon’s activities. Sports, fresh air, and nature are an important part of Living Montessori Summer Camp. The playground becomes an adventurous realm for exploring the outdoors and being physically active. From bikes to trikes to cooperative games and physical challenges, campers hone their gross motor skills and teamwork. While outdoors, they discover the beauty of nature, navigating through their curiosity about home-grown veggies and herbs, and diving into water play while discovering the functions of various tools. The children are often seen joining a game of badminton, bouncing basketballs, learning to play croquet, rolling down the hill, using our outdoor musical instruments, and expanding their imagination to create their own games.

After a much-needed brain break, campers head into their classroom where they choose their own adventures, whether it is building Legos and completing puzzles, engaging in dramatic play, or delving into their nature journals and books in the cozy library area. Older campers can even be found starting a game of chess, Scrabble, or ping pong! With guidance from our Montessori educators, campers are encouraged to follow their passions and pursue their interests at their own pace, fostering a sense of autonomy and self-confidence.

After Care

As school day children go home, after-care campers revive their end-of-day energy in the playground, where they take in the fresh summer air and continue their outdoor exploration. After the fun in the sun and taking in the greenery, our campers return to their aftercare rooms where they calmly join one another in completing hands-on tasks such as creating a work of art, building structures, or playing board games and enjoying another wholesome snack. Children end their day with story time while waiting to return home to be with their families and rest their bodies and minds before coming back for another exciting day of the Living Montessori Summer Camp!

Captivating Weekly Themes

Weekly Theme – Culinary Creations – Peanut Butter And Bread

Each week, our Living Montessori campers explore a different theme. These themes integrate the Montessori Method, providing hands-on exploration of concepts children are naturally drawn to. For example, Dinosaur Discovery and Culinary Creations, tend to be crowd favorites. Activities they have explored include Digging Dinosaur Eggs, Diffused Fruit Water, and making fresh blueberry jam, experimenting and building life skills.

Expanded Elementary Curriculum

For our oldest campers, we have included three new classes: Innovation Lab, Soccer Shots, and Martial Arts! In addition to our specialty classes, elementary children enjoy our STEAM Innovation lab where they explore the basics of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) through hands on learning. From building structures out of repurposed materials, to engineering small towers and basic electrical circuits, our campers explore, deconstruct, and reconstruct with endless possibilities!

Friday Fun

Friday Fun – Camper Water Sliding

Our Fridays are the icing on the cake! During Friday Fun, children enjoy running through sprinklers, playing in the water misters, scooping, pouring, and splashing in water sensory tubs. They can also be seen jumping in the bouncy house or immersed in outdoor dance parties!
