Lead Teacher, Elementary
Ms. Mortensen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Her academic journey included active student teaching at various public and private schools, including Living Montessori. She has comprehensive training and experience in Montessori education, spanning from Infant through Elementary levels, and has served as a Lead Teacher in the Early Education program at Living Montessori. Last school year, she taught in the Primary (3 to 6) program and played an active role in fostering community engagement within the school. Ms. Mortensen is currently completing her Lower Elementary Montessori certification.
Growing up in Yakima, Washington, Ms. Mortensen began working with children during high school through volunteer mentor programs for school-aged kids and has been a formal educator since 2017, teaching children from 15 months to 12 years old. She has always been drawn to the excitement and energy that children bring to learning. After having her daughter, she felt a natural inclination to further her education and deepen her understanding of child development.
In her free time, Ms. Mortensen enjoys staying active, being outdoors, going on road trips to visit family and playing in a co-ed soccer league, which adds a fun and energetic balance to her routine. A fun fact about her is that she competed in the state championship for the 800-meter race in track and field.
