A Day in the Life of Living Montessori Summer Camps 2017

A Day in the Life of Living Montessori Summer Camps 2017

Our summer camps are in full swing here at Living Montessori. From cooking up organic meals in the kitchen, to investigating the basics of STEM through building with legos, our summer campers are exploring a wide variety of ideas and concepts, and of course, having a ton of fun. Here’s a look into a day in the of our summer camps, and some of the fun and educational activities our students are taking on this summer.

Weekly Themes From “Interesting Insects” to “Dazzling Dr. Seuss”

Each week, our Living Montessori campers get to explore a different theme with their class and teachers. These themes seamlessly integrate the Montessori Method while building a fun and enriching environment for the children. These themes, including “Outer Space Exploration,” “Let’s Go Camping” “Crazy Construction” and many more enable children to explore activities tailored to different ideas and concepts each week. Some projects they’ve done include “Green Eggs and Ham” themed marble art, 3D Paper Fish, Rice Cake Animal Snacks and a whole lot more.

Culinary Adventures

Culinary projects are incorporated into our school year curriculum and the summer is no different! Our children of all ages get to learn about cooking and healthy food choices through mixing up a number of healthy and tasty recipes. Projects our three to five year old class have taken on include fruit smoothies, rice cake animal snacks, pita pizzas and blueberry frozen yogurt.

Organic Gardening with Oxbow Farm

This summer, some of our students got the chance to participate in our Farm Adventures Enrichment Camp at Oxbow Farm in Carnation. Students in this camp got to learn about organic farming and sustainable food systems straight from the source. Educators from Oxbow Farm taught students about planting seeds, transplanting starts, harvesting crops, and caring for the land. Our students loved trying out Oxbow Farm’s bike-powered blender where peddling the bike provided the energy for the blender to run. They made truly sustainable smoothies!

Hard at Work in the Makerspace

The Living Montessori Makerspace is officially open and in use for all age levels! This space is a hub for children to explore the basics Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) through hands on learning. From building structures out of repurposed materials for our younger students, to engineering small towers and basic electrical circuits for our older students, our campers have loved the opportunity to play, explore, deconstruct and reconstruct in our brand new makerspace.

Friday Fun

Friday Fun is a highlight at Living Montessori Summer Camp. On Fridays, the Montessori team facilitates activities that are a ton of fun for students of all levels. Whether students are running through sprinklers, jumping in a bouncy castle, or having a great time at a number of other activities, children always have a great time making the most of their summer during Friday Fun.

At Living Montessori, we strive to provide children with a holistic educational experience. From Farm Adventures, to Intro to STEM with Legos, our summer camps are a great chance for children to grow their base of knowledge and explore opportunities beyond the typical classroom during the school year.
